hopefully you caught my post a few weeks ago, where i began my "professor quotes" section. here we go again, with more gems from the master of organizational behavior.
but before i even get into what he said last night, let's discuss his clothes. i've seen him twice now, and both times he has worn really fancy looking suits with this stand-up type collar. his shirts have the same short little, standy-uppy type collar. what the heck?! where does one even purchase a suit like this?? also, he never wears a tie, but always has a little hankie, poofie thing hanging out of his pocket. he lives in italy usually, so maybe i can blame it on that? anyhow:
[again, about the overhead projector] "Can this light be turned off? Damn. I already used my near-death experience joke last time."
"Let's talk about tooting your own horn."
"In that type of role you have consultants working for you, if you're willing to tap them."
cvs is on my shitlist. i decided to fill my new prescription there, since the duane reade across the street is officially run by morons. i dropped of my prescription yesterday afternoon, everything went smoothly. super. but, when i went to pick it up this morning - crisis. allegedly, there was a "problem" with my insurance. i was (rudely) asked to wait while they figured it out. i proceeded to wait close to an hour for them to "sort this out". i stood around with my best "i am extremely pissed off" face on, but that didn't seem to incite them to move faster. i was told repeatedly that "she is on the phone with your insurance" but i could not find a single pharmacist who was on the phone. the only time they did pick up the phone was when someone called to ask about a prescription. they were very quick to answer those calls. so quick that i thought about going home and calling them to bitch about the issue instead of just standing there. anyhow, after waiting around for a million years while every other tom, dick and harry was helped before me, i was graciously handed my prescription. but - problem #1: it was much more expensive than it normally is. problem #2: my Rx is written to get 3 months at a time, but i was only handed a 1 month supply. blerg. i wanted to book it and figure it out later. as i turn to leave, the pharmacist says to me "Thank you," in that tone that really means "Please thank me for my brilliant work with pills." I did not. As I'm walking away, she continues to shout "Thank you" at my back.
Through all of that, here's the best thing I heard while waiting around the pharmacy counter - Pharmacist Lady #1 to Pharmacist Lady #2: "What's half of a half?"
Do not, I repeat, do NOT go to the CVS pharmacy at 86th and Broadway.
instead of going the old boring route to bookshelves, i (well, z) found a cooler solution. if you recall, i have had a slight book overload as of late (which is due to a disease called "Must Buy More Books Than I Have Time To Ever Read"), and this is due to only get worse in the very near future. hoorah for floating shelves! can you figure out the secret?
if you caught my valumtime's day special here, then you are familiar with teen girl squad. (if not, catch up here, and here.)
but NOW, there is 4 Gregs! the teen girl squad counterpart cartoon - complete with d n' d greg, sci-fi greg, open source greg, and japanese culture greg. just as clueless and socially awkward as the tgs, but now in boy form! watch the first ep, as they cautiously dare to spend a night in mainstream social territory at the high school football game.
ohhh lost. if you've been enjoying the ridiculous lost untangled videos, you can see the new one here. as far as i can tell, it diverges a bit more from the actual story than the previous videos, but i still think it's hilarious.
also, the doc jensen article this week has some pretty great insights about the characters, including something really interesting about jack's "grandpa ray". after initially seeing that part of this week's episode, i was annoyed that any time was spent on it, since it seemed stupid and irrelevant. but after reading this, it seems potentially important. and insane. (but that's lost for ya.) also, some good speculations on ben's motivations, why he was all bloody and freakin' out, and where the hell is aaron. it didn't mention anything too interesting about ben's bible story time, or caravaggio's doubting thomas painting. since you know i love me some italian renaissance art, i am going to investigate into that one.
best lines of the episode: jack: how can you read?? ben: my mother taught me.
ahhh! angela kinsey from the office is apparently separating from her husband, warren lieberstein! the horror!! (i'm mostly serious. it's only a minute bit in jest, since you know i love the jest.) mostly i am sad because they just had a cute kid - isabel - in May of last year. sad for Isabel... maybe angela really IS married to dwight/rainn, and warren found out?! the way to find out would be to check if isabel has a huge head, a bad haircut, goofy glasses and loves beets.
i know valentine's day is already over, and i don't even really care about it to begin with. but i love this video so much, so i wanted to post it for all of you to enjoy. enjoy!
at a recent shabbat meal, E (yes, you!) mentioned a certain TEFILLIN BARBIE. considering that i had every barbie under the sun as a child (and often cut their hair, which once led me to give myself a very crappy haircut at the age of 5), i am shocked and appalled that i was not aware of this! if you were wondering what i want for my birthday in... 9 months... this would be it! thank you in advance.
p.s. - question. why is barbie covering her hair and wearing tefillin? that confuses me. but i guess it happens somewhere... p.p.s - if you click on the link above, be sure to at least read the caption of the picture at the very bottom. hi-lar-ious.
this was attached to an email that i recently received from J. the subject line read "this is pretty seriously awesome." she could not be more correct.
Dwight: You have to write down my suggestions too Jim: I'm not writing horse hunt! I don't even know what that means. Dwight: It's in the name. Jim: Ok. So far our ideal party consists of beer, fights to the death, cupcakes, blood pudding, blood, touch football, mating, charades, and yes, horse hunting. Dwight: You're right. Forget horse hunting. It's stupid.
just came across this article on cnn.com about google's new latitude program. in case you are not familiar (as i was not), latitude will allow cell phone users to share their precise location with friends. it's like google maps, but with a little picture of your head walking down broadway as you go. while i can think of the pluses to this service (as the article mentions - using latitude to find out whether your boyfriend has already arrived at the resturant and if not, how far away he is - not that i ever will have this issue) but it mostly creeps me out. yes, you have to be signed up for latitude before someone can track you, but the concept still feels weird and stalkery. one cool thing, though, is that google still lets you lie to people about where you are. you can block specific people, or manually set a specific location. (then what the hell is the point, you may ask. i'm not totally sure.)
latitude is already up and running for blackberry users, so check it out and let me know what you think. i'm still quite wary.
it's so ridiculous, but i can't help it - i love the lost untangled videos! they remind me of those old action league now! sketches from all that. yesss, old nickelodeon shows... oh abc - you make my brain esplode with episode after crazy episode of lost, and then give me gems of hilarity like this.
here's a celebrity gossip shocker. i'm mostly shocked since this totally caught me off guard, and doesn't make too much sense.
according to cnn.com, people.com, and US Magazine (to name just a few), mandy moore and ryan adams are engaged. um, i didn't even know they were dating! that's probably because neither of them are on my radar... i mean, come ON. he comes out with a new record every four seconds. he writes 10 new songs before breakfast. every day, i'm sure. that's annoying. and she was in license to wed and a walk to remember. then again, she was also in saved!, which i love. i cannot imagine them together at all, and am therefore blindsided. though apparently a mazal tov is in order.... why does ryan adams have a Hebrew Coca-Cola shirt?! [p.s. - as always, i must give a shout out to j for her vague contribution to this post. she is usually my #1 go-to lady for celeb gossip, but either she was just very busy at work, or completely shocked by this news as well. anyhow, thanks j!!]
still have a few lingering questions about last week's episode of lost? if your questions are mostly something like "um... what the hell is going on?!?!" then you may need "lost untangled". while i'm not usually a fan of abc's pop-up, enhanced type videos, at least this one is hilarious.
also, if you have time today, you should check out doc jensen's article on ew.com. he always has some pretty great theories, and his article clears up a lot of time-travel questions i've had.
from L: I love reading the posts. Keep em coming! haha. Esp the lost, i love lost! How awesome is it?(quite awesome, my friend.)
from E: I have been feeling very -- hmm... how shall I say it? -- boring lately. So I love love love reading your blog and hearing about and doing interesting things because it makes me feel like less of a horribly boring kid trapped in the workforce and more of a cultured NYC lady! (not sure if my blog counts as culture, but thanks for reading!)
this all reminds me that i've been wanting to write to you all (whatever 3 people actually read this blog) about commenting. comment, please! i love reading your comments. and if you comment or send me something blog-worthy, you will always get a shout-out. keep reading, all. thanks!
