this must be the place.
one of the reasons i really like my new job is because i can pretty much listen to my iPod all day. i always work better with music and it's just impossible to listen to the glaring silence of my office all day. of course, listening to music for 8+ hours of the day has quickly put me into a rut with most of my favorites. there is only so much ok go, wallflowers, counting crows and talking heads i can take (shocking, i know).
what music do you listen to while at work? is it better to listen to chill music or pump up music? since i was recently asked for music suggestions, im turning my own request on you - what's good in music these days, and what should i be listening to to get me through the day?

bad week for celebrities.
also a bad week to be an iranian voter, but that's all fallen by the wayside since reports were confirmed that michael jackson has died. to this day, one of my absolute favorite things to do is listen to the thriller record with those huge headphones and just zone everything else out. i think it's very easy to remember mj for his recent legal and financial trouble, but when you look back at some of the videos.... that guy can perform.this article is pretty great. considering i found out about mj being dead (well, at that point only tmz was reporting his death; everyone else was only reporting cardiac arrest) through twitter before i left work, the blogosphere moved quickly on this one. pretty amazing to think of what his super-super-extreme star potential could have been in the age of twitter/fb.
a few concerns now... what happens to his kids? from coverage i've heard today, it sounds like he truly loved them. i hope they will be taken care of properly. also, does he still own any of the beatles catalouge? where does that go? who now owns the mj catalouge?
i would highly highly recommend the following:
- beat it
- black or white (skip to about 2:20 to bypass the macaulay culkin semi-ridic intro; don't forget to catch tyra at the end)
- i want you back (some delightful jackson 5)
- thriller (obv)

viva la vida?
just a quick note to ask:do you like coldplay?
if so, definitely check this out. and if you just like free music, you should check it out as well.
this also teaches us (well me, at least) that there are definite benefits to twittering...

here you go, e.
aside from shenanigans at work, yes, everything is ok. i haven't forgotten about you.apparently i am the source of all things lost for certain people, so i'd like to officially announce the lost hiatus rewatch project. several lost bloggers are getting together, have created a schedule, and plan on rewatching all 5 seasons of lost in preparation for season 6. sounds crazy, right? well, if you're a lostaholic like me, you'd think this project was super-awesome. it just started a week or so ago, and everyone is blogging the old episodes, but with our current knowledge of jacob, flocke, widmore, ricardus.....etc. one of my favorites so far is jo, but you can also check out docartz and lostpedia for other postings on the rewatch and scheduling.
last night, we saw mr. david byrne in concert in brooklyn at prospect park. (new milestone - the deepest i've ever been into brooklyn!) he played mostly new stuff, but got a few oldies-but-goodies in there, like once in a lifetime.
still will be my favorite, always:
in other news, has anyone been watching the new bravo show the fashion show? it's basically the poor man's version of project runway. no heidi, no tim gunn (but who could ever replace him?)... i've been watching just because what the hell else is on, but i'm really waiting for project runway to come out again. i don't even care that it will be on lifetime.

rolling stones + lost =......
even though she had yet to see the entire lost finale, my mom had a pretty good theory about lost. when i asked her how she liked the first part of the finale she replied, "it was good. it reminded me of sympathy for the devil."just thought i'd post all of the lyrics here, since after reviewing them, i sort of agree....
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for long, long years
Stole many man's soul and faith
And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
I stuck around St. Petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Czar and his ministers
Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank
Held a general's rank
When the blitzkrieg raged
And the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
I watched with glee
While your kings and queens
Fought for ten decades
For the gods they made
I shouted out,
"Who killed the Kennedys?"
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached Bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But what's confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame
What's my name
Tell me, baby, what's my name
Tell me, sweetie, what's my name

has your suit snugged up a bit?
if you were wondering: "what gift could i get rebecca to welcome her to her new office space on the 25th floor at random house?" - wonder no longer!!
that's right! a flight of the conchords mousepad! i know mousepads are sooo out, but COME ON. bret? jemaine? checkin' me out, all day, every day at work? and i don't even hold a sign on a public footpath, so they won't be a disturbance to my work. you can get it from the HBO Store for 10 bucks. but you'll have to convert that to new zealand-y money yourself.
p.s. - if you already bought your fotc mousepad from murray, don't worry about having to use it to line your dog's kennel. just give it directly to me! problem solved!

need plans for the weekend?
yes, a weekend has just ended, but that's the best time to start pondering your plans for the upcoming weekend! we're all workin' for the weekend anyhow, right?
anyhow, thanks to a's brilliant detective work (and general ability to just be in shul), we've discovered that SCHLOCK ROCK will be playing THIS WEEKEND (saturday night) in NEW YORK CITY (at Ramat Orah, West 110th between Broadway and Amsterdam). ahhhhhh (screams my 10 year old self)!
in case you were a total dork as a kid, i will let you in on the schlock rock secret. they are a jewish band, started in 1985, who parodies rock songs with Jewish/religious lyrics. various topics include: rashi, kashrut, tu b'shvat, shabbat, jewish history.
a few choice lyrics: "Oh can't you see/OU it's gotta be."
"Help me Rambam yea/Get me closer to God."
"Na'aseh v'enishma/We'll do all the mitzvahs/Come on let's learn some more/All night long."
"Hey you! What's that you're wearing?" "Yo it's my yarmulke!"
in our excitement for le concertia, convo with L -
L: (quoting Every Bite You Take) We're the police! The kosher police!
Me: Haha yay!
L: And get it? Because The Police sing the real song! Their genius is endless.
Me: This is blog-worthy. Thank you for your brilliant "police" work.
have i convinced you?! hopefully! can't wait to rock out with you this weekend! be good, be cool, be jewish!

trl isn't dead!
...at least not here. just thought i'd share a few things that have been on repeat for me for a while now. enjoy!
- here is ryan adams's answering bell. yea yea, i always said i didn't like him. mostly due to the fact that he puts out a new album about every two weeks, and that seems annoying and pretentious. but answering bell came up on my iTunes recently, and i can't stop listening.
- my new favorite is julian velard. saw a show of him and ari hest recently with L, and we're both obsessed (partially because they are both jewish, mostly because they both rule). two things of julian's are below that you should watch! the first is my new favorite of favorite songs, do it alone. the other one is his new music video of the song jimmy dean & steve mcqueen. enjoy!
