damn you, google.

just came across this article on cnn.com about google's new latitude program. in case you are not familiar (as i was not), latitude will allow cell phone users to share their precise location with friends. it's like google maps, but with a little picture of your head walking down broadway as you go. while i can think of the pluses to this service (as the article mentions - using latitude to find out whether your boyfriend has already arrived at the resturant and if not, how far away he is - not that i ever will have this issue) but it mostly creeps me out. yes, you have to be signed up for latitude before someone can track you, but the concept still feels weird and stalkery. one cool thing, though, is that google still lets you lie to people about where you are. you can block specific people, or manually set a specific location. (then what the hell is the point, you may ask. i'm not totally sure.)

latitude is already up and running for blackberry users, so check it out and let me know what you think. i'm still quite wary.
