ok, ok. so i haven't seen T3. i can still be way psyched about T4 coming out this weekend, right?? well, i am. T2 is one of my all-time favorite movies, and i'm pretty excited that christian bale has decided to get on the terminator train. a movie series that gives me ahhnold, edward furlong and bale?? yea, i can't wait. it's just too bad i don't get a super-bad-to-the-bone linda hamilton reprise.

it seems that, while being interviewed for night at the museum II, or whatever it's called, ben stiller discussed the possibility of a second zoolander movie! (please insert freak-out here.) while i'm not usually a fan of sequels almost-ten-years later, i would welcome a zoolander sequel any day. seriously - old hansel? would david bowie make a second guest appearance? would we finally get to see how life is at the derek zoolander center for kids who can't read good? the possibilities are endless. i await your arrival, mr. mugatu!
in my combined bored-at-work with must-gather-every-shred-of-information-available-on-lost (yes, i have problems), i came across vozzek69's recap of the finale. i know he's supposed to be good, but in normal weeks, by the time i had read ew and LLL, my brain was already mush, and i knew a new ep was around the corner. but now, i have nothing.
aside from his recap being quite super, i just came across this theory on not-jacob's cabin that really blew me away:
"My theory on this is long and complicated, and probably has some holes in it... but here it is:
The man in the dark shirt was somehow imprisoned in the cabin, kept there by the circle of ash. This is who we first saw say "Help me" when the cabin was introduced. Maybe Jacob tricked him in there and trapped him, and maybe Richard even helped. This could explain why the dark man could at first only appear in one of his most ancient forms - the smoke monster - because his physical being was stuck in the cabin behind the circle of ash. We also saw him appear in the forms of Yemi and Alex, but only after having scanned the minds of the people who knew those characters.
Whatever the case, once the circle was broken the entity was allowed to leave. It took the form of Christian, but it also knew that Richard would never lead Christian to where Jacob was hiding out. It therefore needed to take the form of John Locke, a man who Richard envisions should be the true leader of the Others. As Richard points out, only the leader of the Others would be permitted an audience with Jacob... it's part of "the rules" and the smoke monster knows this.
And so the dark dude/monster develops an elaborate plan: To become Locke, it knows the original John Locke needs to die. But the island (Jacob?) won't let allow Locke to die; this is best evidenced when Ben shoots him point blank and he somehow lives. It realizes it needs to get Locke off island in order to kill him. It then uses ghost Christian to manipulate Locke into turning the wheel, where it knows/hopes Locke will be killed, while at the same time planting seeds in Locke's head that he'll need to die in order to come back. Ben dutifully brings Locke's body back on Ajira 316, thinking he's doing the island's bidding when he's actually doing the opposite.
The smoke monster takes over from there. All that's left at that point is to gain a weapon with which to kill Jacob. That weapon is Ben, and the dark man has been sharpening that weapon for a long time now."
yea. go read the whole recap. because seriously - what else do you have going on without lost recaps?
in my constant quest to find out more about lost, i found a pretty great list of questions on the ny mag website. gems such as: "did widmore and elosie every get an audience with jacob?" and "why did they burn not-jacob's cabin?" and "what the heck happened to ilana's face (and did jacob heal it like in the same way he seems to revive real-locke after his fall)?" at least they ask my question about where the heck is claire (and why does no one - except potentially kate - seem to care)? give us some answers, puh-lease!!!
also, the always-hilarious tvgasm lost recap is out, though only on the first part of the finale.
anyone else wishing we could time travel to 2010 to start season 6 asap?

well! it's been a year, hasn't it. i'm really not sure what the hell i'm going to do until freakin' 2010 to wait and find out if juliet is dead, if jughead went boom, if they got transported back/forward in time, if 815 crashed, if real-locke is real dead....
first off - locke is dead! probabaly. right....? so this whole season, fake-locke has just been walkin' around somehow in a locke suit? that's creeptastic. kind of reminds me of that alien in MIB who killed the farmer, and walked around in his body like an "edgar suit," as his shell-shocked wife described. it just seems weird that the producers would slip this in at the end. (that's what she said.) i mean, we've all kind of picked up the fact that back-from-the-dead locke is somehow slightly different than old-locke. but i had at least just figured that he had some new-found connection with smokey or the island or whatever. not that he was SOME OTHER DUDE COMPLETELY. seems like a cheap trick, but ok. it's lost. if i can suspend belief on everything else, i can let this slide too, right?
a few questions that have been raised. first off, it seems curious that if fake-locke is the dude from the beginning of the episode, chillin' with jacob on the beach in the shadow of the statue, he would know exactly where jacob lived! why does fake-locke make a big show of "take me to your leader" and so forth?? i assume that he doesn't want to let on that he is fake-locke. if he just ran into jacob's underground lair, everyone (ben, sun, richard, the band of merry red-shirts, etc) would be curious. i think he has to play up the unknowingness to convince everyone that he's the locke they all know. (of course, now his cover is totally blown, considering real-locke's body is now rolled out on the sand.)
also - how are there TWO locke bodies?! if fake-locke is in one (in the underground lair when we last saw him), why the heck is real-locke out on the beach? where did the extra body come from? i presume this can be explained with some time-travel trickery. it just seems that if fake-locke is indeed wearing real-locke like a suit, there should only be one body, no? other things i need answers to! - what is the significance of the ash circle around not-jacob's-haunted-cabin being broken? who has been let out of captivity? - who the heck is ilana? what was she doing in a russian hospital? why did it seem like she knew jacob? - why did jacob physically touch all of the 815ers that he met? why was juliet's flashback the only one without jacob? - who/what is the loophole? - how does the ben/widmore war factor into the jacob/fake-locke war? - does anyone care where claire is?!
other things i'm thinking about! - sayid? probably a goner (boooooo). juliet? maybe not. - i loved the back of sun's wedding dress! i've missed her usual spark and awesomeness this season. bring it back in season 6, b'vakasha!! - interesting that jacob gave hurley that guitar case that we've all assumed is charlie's. it still might be, but how did jacob end up with it? (also - i loved that one of hurley's possessions was a fruit roll up. never ever change, hurley!) - horrah for phil being dead! that guy was a major jerk. - glad there was a little moment about charlie and claire when sun found his driveshaft ring (can't believe that thing is still around!) in aaron's old crib (made by old-real-locke!) oh, the old days... - obvious but - so so scary and sad when nadia gets smashed by that car. i was mad when jacob just kind of looked on as if he knew it was going to happen... but then i forgave him because he seems nice and is cute. (but why did they cast some dude who looks like steve zahn as jacob??)
recaps: - i would definitely check out doc jensen's recap at ew. good stuff, and he'll have another one out next week with more finals thoughts and answers. - erika posted a few thoughts today on her blog, but will eventually have a full (or two) posts on the finale. considering she's (real) locke's gal, i'm sure she's quite sad...
ok. hope that helped jumpstart your thinking. hopefully i didn't further confuse anyone... what the heck do we do until 2010?!
while i can't mention how i happened upon this site, i'm quite glad that i found it. i was enticed by the schlep tote (shown here). that is something that i definitely need to carry around town. i love it. i am also enjoying the yiddish cat in the hat(though i'm not sure what dr. suess would think, or if i'm even allowed to officially endore it) and i'm pretty sure my mom will want to get mimi the kosher bone and bagel chew toys. ohhh, excitement...
you may or may not have ever seen the mr. deity webisodes, but if you're a friend of mine, i can promise you'll enjoy them. you can watch them on youtube or on crackle. just watch the video below about the creation of the 10 commandments and you'll be sold.
just had the coolest lecture at work (one in a series of "tech lectures" at random house). it was given by nick bolton, who works in the r&d labs at the nytimes. basically his whole job is thinking about new technologies for content, layouts and access to information. um, how do i get that job? he also worked on the website/video content for david carr's book the night of the gun. (he also just seems like a nice, cool guy.)
if you want to know more about the future of flexible newspapers that can customize content based on the street corner you are standing on (and how it will cost less than the paper newspapers that you can buy now), be sure to keep an eye on this guy. (or just follow him on twitter, if you're into that sort of thing.)
a) they are making a movie of one of my all-time favorite books, the time traveler's wife. it's probably the one really romanticy, lovey-dovey thing that i like. if you have not read this book - DO IT. it's a really wonderful story. also, it's set in Chicago. what more could you want?? and while i am excited, i realize that the movie stars eric bana and rachel mcadams... could be a blerg-a-thon. i think i need to know more about how they are translating the book into a movie, or we could be getting into really creepy benjamin-button-stlye-old-man-little-girl-love scenarios.
b) here is a book that i need, and i am not sure why it has yet to be purchased for me!!!
i presume that, like me, you all really enjoyed last week's episode of lost. i loooooove daniel and was so glad to have my suspicions confirmed that his mom = eloise and his dad = widmore. now we have two sets of half-siblings (jack and claire, daniel and penny). sad that he is more-than-likely dead (although, who knows with this show) and sadder that eloise sent him back to the island even when she knew all along that she kills him. i suppose she did it "for the island" or some malarkey like that. creepy convo between mini-charlotte and dan - it's kind of weird to think that's when she met him, but he didn't meet her until he was on the frieghter. ahh... try to wrap your brain around that one.
anywho - this week's recap of the variable on tvgasm.com was quite delightful. i'd highly recommend it to get some laughs into your monday morning.
also, e's recap is out. i haven't read it yet, but i'm sure she has some great insights, as always.
did anyone else catch this wonderful article in the nytimes today? it starts off talking about kids in westchester, ny doing chores and you think "oh boo hoo, rich kids have to do chores." but they are doing chores to raise money for a program called chores mean more. they are paid money (by their parents - some pay as much as $1 per chore - ooooh!) to do chores around the house. the money is then sent to their sister schools in Kenya so kids there can have storybooks and writing supplies. also - Jewish 7th graders wrote rhymes to help african kids learn to read and write stories inspired by Jewish prayers. one student set up a laptop at her bat mitzvah last month for guests to tell their own stories, and created table centerpieces from markers, pencils, crayons, chalk and scissors that will be donated to the african schools. “stories can be written by anyone, no matter your race, religion, gender, wealth or where in the world you live,” she said.

since we've been lost-deprived this week due to the no-pisode (i.e. - clipshow), i'd like to share some delicious lost news! next week's episode the variable is the 100th episode of lost! ahhhh! in celebration of this, the folks at ace of cakes made a cake for the lost cast. it features a beach, old timey computer, dharma beer cans and mini-cake characters. check out hilarious pictures of the lost cast with their cake - i especially enjoy the picture of daniel dae kim (jin) taking a picture of his own mini-cake character on his iPhone.
and while we're on the variable... people are saying that this episode is a bookend to last season's the constant. considering that that episode was one of lost's most romantic (and freaking-awesome) episodes, doom and gloom seems possible for our favorite losties.
