totally lost.

me: did you see the new ew lost thing?

a:
no?? put it on blogerstein.

me: ok it will be on my bloggy shortish.

yea, it's lost. doc is back with his highly anticipated column as a post-post-recap of the finale of lost, and of season 5. some delightful theories, both new and old, to tickle your lost brainbuds. also, seems like this will not be the last of doc, which is welcome news. i think we're all a bit lost-deprived.

meanwhile, has anyone been doing the rewatch? i have not, but may pick it up... let me know if you've discovered anything good!

if you give a puppy ice cream...

if you've been watching this week of colbert report: operation iraqi stephen, going commando, then you can disregard this post.

if not, may i ask why? ok, so you don't like stephen colbert. that's fine. he's not for everyone. but, i think it's really cool that he's spending this time in iraq with the troops and showing off their work and lives. i'm about the least patriotic person, but i've really been enjoying seeing the guys (and gals) and hearing from generals and, last night, from the deputy prime minister of iraq.

but it's not all seriousness, of course. i offer up this clip of stephen and tom hanks sending a care package to the troops
(or at least attempting to...)

viva la vida?

just a quick note to ask:

do you like coldplay?

if so, definitely check this out. and if you just like free music, you should check it out as well.

this also teaches us (well me, at least) that there are definite benefits to twittering...

need a little organization in your life?

is your monitor at work clouded by a mass of post-it notes? (Uh oh - flashback to 1997 - Um, well, ordinarily when you make glue first you need to thermoset your resin and then after it cools you have to mix in an epoxide, which is really just a fancy-schmancy name for any simple oxygenated adhesive, right? And then I thought maybe, just maybe, you could raise the viscosity by adding a complex glucose derivative during the emulsification process and it turns out I was right.) do you make lists, maybe on the stickies program on your mac, but then can't remember/access the note at work? what's a person to do?!

evernote is the answer, my dear friends. not only can you access it online through their site, but you can also download programs to your devices (pc, mac, blackberry, iPhone... palm pilot anyone?).

cool thing #1! your notes will sync up to ALL OF YOUR LOCATIONS. so, if you are at your work computer and you add a note through their online site, it will be waiting on your mac program when you get home! if you upload a picture note on your blackberry, it will show up on your pc at work! this would even be enough for me (dayeiu). i always make lists and need to update them and have them where ever i go... but short of carrying around a 5-subject notebook, this is the solution!

cool thing #2! evernote can search text in pictures! (this even made the IT dudes at work go googly-eyed.) if i take a picture of your business card, i can search in evernote for your name, and up pops the picture of your card!

additionally, you can have tags and different books of notes (like i have a separate one for work-related notes). i've been using it for a few days now and i think it's quite delightful. let me know if you try it and how it works out for you!

here you go, e.

aside from shenanigans at work, yes, everything is ok. i haven't forgotten about you.

apparently i am the source of all things lost for certain people, so i'd like to officially announce the lost hiatus rewatch project. several lost bloggers are getting together, have created a schedule, and plan on rewatching all 5 seasons of lost in preparation for season 6. sounds crazy, right? well, if you're a lostaholic like me, you'd think this project was super-awesome. it just started a week or so ago, and everyone is blogging the old episodes, but with our current knowledge of jacob, flocke, widmore, ricardus.....etc. one of my favorites so far is jo, but you can also check out docartz and lostpedia for other postings on the rewatch and scheduling.

last night, we saw mr. david byrne in concert in brooklyn at prospect park. (new milestone - the deepest i've ever been into brooklyn!) he played mostly new stuff, but got a few oldies-but-goodies in there, like once in a lifetime.

still will be my favorite, always:

in other news, has anyone been watching the new bravo show the fashion show? it's basically the poor man's version of project runway. no heidi, no tim gunn (but who could ever replace him?)... i've been watching just because what the hell else is on, but i'm really waiting for project runway to come out again. i don't even care that it will be on lifetime.

updates.

first off, you know my life is busy when i haven't read people.com or ew.com or any of my blogs all week at all. there really should be a someecard that says, "thank you for quitting so i now have the opportunity to do the job of two people for the same pay!" well, at least i get a fancy office out of the deal, right...?

next, i met with some awesome old friends last night, and a certain mr. k notified me of a brewing conflict! if you recall, i recently posted about the newest american girl doll, rebecca. (the deb said i could get her for my birthday yessssssss!) apparently, there is a woman on the fbi's most wanted list with the exact same name - rebecca rubin! she is some ec-terrorist who has organized bombings of a ski resort and an Oregon power plant. so now when little girls google "rebecca rubin" they are getting this eco-terrorist lady. good work, mattel.

jon - kate+8?

unless you live in a hole (a hole that doesn't have wi-fi or cable or a People magazine subscription), by now you know something about the Jon & Kate Plus 8 debocle. as a long-time watcher of the show, i'm quite sad, though not too too surprised by the recent turn of events. the season 5 premier episode was pretty sad, with jon and kate barely looking at or talking to each other (even at the sextuplets' birthday party), and only appearing in intereviews together briefly. they both seemed sad and at a loss for what to do next. i came upon this interview with kate's brother and sister-in-law (both have frequently appeared on the show) that seemed really interesting. instead of coming to their aid and defending them, the relatives tearfully say that the kids are being exploited (duh) and hate being on camera. it's pretty interesting stuff if you're at all interested in this story. i know i am.

that's a weird way to tell us.

so in my usual morning scour of the internet for more lost goodies, i noticed that doc jensen had a post on ew.com. his full, final recap will be out later this week. also - the recap of the finale on LLL is up! hoorah!

according to doc, the folks over at lost headquarters have quietly let us in on a big mystery - the four-toed statue is definitely taweret. according to wikipedia, very early in Egyptian history, taweret was seen as a deity of protection in pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnant women wore amulets with her name or likeness to protect their pregnancies. but if this statue had been up since jacob-y olden times, then maybe the "pregnancy problem" wasn't something that the Others caused, or was not soley affecting those women or in that time period. seems like it might be something that has been a problem on the island for a looooong time, if they felt the need to erect this huge statue to guard the island.

a while ago, doc asked what were our top 3 lost mysteries that we MUST know the answers too. (i think this is the main thesis of his next post). anyhow, here are some good ones that he has shared so far:
  • Where did Claire go?
  • Where are Cindy and the kids?
  • What's Libby's backstory
  • What's Richard Alpert's backstory?
  • Why could Walt do the weird things he could do?

maybe my parents want to move...

...to a different house in Highland Park? if so, they should check this one out.

don't tell me what i can't rue.

i don't know about you, but i have been in serious lost withdrawl. thank goodness tvgasm came to my rescue today with the recap of the second half of the lost finale. i know some of you aren't too keen on the funny-style recaps, but this one is gold. and honestly, what else do you have to live for at this point?

we're still waiting on more doc jensen and the LLL recap. stay tuned. in the meantime, you can ponder this question from e:

"yo, so when locke's douchebag father appeared on the island, you think that was also anti-jacob/smoke monster guy?"

and if it wasn't really anthony cooper, then that dude is still alive! and - who the hell did sawyer really kill?!

one more thing about this new imposter-locke. i am really liking his new names, including flocke (fake+locke) and mocke (mock+locke). any other good ones out there?

5.24.2009

meet rebecca.

no, not me. the newest american girl doll. um, yea. not only is the newest american girl doll jewish, her name is rebecca. can i get her for my 25th birthday, or am i too old?!

5.20.2009

did you call moi a dipshit?

ok, ok. so i haven't seen T3. i can still be way psyched about T4 coming out this weekend, right?? well, i am. T2 is one of my all-time favorite movies, and i'm pretty excited that christian bale has decided to get on the terminator train. a movie series that gives me ahhnold, edward furlong and bale?? yea, i can't wait. it's just too bad i don't get a super-bad-to-the-bone linda hamilton reprise.

to get you pumped up for tomorrow's movie release (in ny anyhow), you should check out ew.com 15 best terminator moments gallery. (the first one is my favorite.)

5.19.2009

you is talkin' loco, and i like it!

movie newsflash!!!

it seems that, while being interviewed for night at the museum II, or whatever it's called, ben stiller discussed the possibility of a second zoolander movie! (please insert freak-out here.) while i'm not usually a fan of sequels almost-ten-years later, i would welcome a zoolander sequel any day. seriously - old hansel? would david bowie make a second guest appearance? would we finally get to see how life is at the derek zoolander center for kids who can't read good? the possibilities are endless. i await your arrival, mr. mugatu!

More about this movie

5.18.2009

and.... more.

now here's a story, kidlets..

in my combined bored-at-work with must-gather-every-shred-of-information-available-on-lost (yes, i have problems), i came across vozzek69's recap of the finale. i know he's supposed to be good, but in normal weeks, by the time i had read ew and LLL, my brain was already mush, and i knew a new ep was around the corner. but now, i have nothing.

aside from his recap being quite super, i just came across this theory on not-jacob's cabin that really blew me away:

"
My theory on this is long and complicated, and probably has some holes in it... but here it is:

The man in the dark shirt was somehow imprisoned in the cabin, kept there by the circle of ash. This is who we first saw say "Help me" when the cabin was introduced. Maybe Jacob tricked him in there and trapped him, and maybe Richard even helped. This could explain why the dark man could at first only appear in one of his most ancient forms - the smoke monster - because his physical being was stuck in the cabin behind the circle of ash. We also saw him appear in the forms of Yemi and Alex, but only after having scanned the minds of the people who knew those characters.

Whatever the case, once the circle was broken the entity was allowed to leave. It took the form of Christian, but it also knew that Richard would never lead Christian to where Jacob was hiding out. It therefore needed to take the form of John Locke, a man who Richard envisions should be the true leader of the Others. As Richard points out, only the leader of the Others would be permitted an audience with Jacob... it's part of "the rules" and the smoke monster knows this.

And so the dark dude/monster develops an elaborate plan: To become Locke, it knows the original John Locke needs to die. But the island (Jacob?) won't let allow Locke to die; this is best evidenced when Ben shoots him point blank and he somehow lives. It realizes it needs to get Locke off island in order to kill him. It then uses ghost Christian to manipulate Locke into turning the wheel, where it knows/hopes Locke will be killed, while at the same time planting seeds in Locke's head that he'll need to die in order to come back. Ben dutifully brings Locke's body back on Ajira 316, thinking he's doing the island's bidding when he's actually doing the opposite.

The smoke monster takes over from there. All that's left at that point is to gain a weapon with which to kill Jacob. That weapon is Ben, and the dark man has been sharpening that weapon for a long time now."

yea. go read the whole recap. because seriously - what else do you have going on without lost recaps?

dear darlton.

in my constant quest to find out more about lost, i found a pretty great list of questions on the ny mag website. gems such as: "did widmore and elosie every get an audience with jacob?" and "why did they burn not-jacob's cabin?" and "what the heck happened to ilana's face (and did jacob heal it like in the same way he seems to revive real-locke after his fall)?" at least they ask my question about where the heck is claire (and why does no one - except potentially kate - seem to care)? give us some answers, puh-lease!!!

also, the always-hilarious tvgasm lost recap is out, though only on the first part of the finale.

anyone else wishing we could time travel to 2010 to start season 6 asap?
